The HidroPoint Water Transfer Utility Pump is a solidly-built compact syphon pump for home emergencies.

The pump is self-priming up to 9 feet, transfers water up to 390 gallons per hour with a maximum lift up to 55 feet.

The pump comes with a 6-foot clear see-through suction hose, a suction strainer, and replacement impellers and brushes.

For those basement water emergencies, this is an excellent pump.

The Hidropoint Pump worked true to form and clears my pool cover quickly. The only problem is the triangle suction screen put in the pool, as it sucks the cover to the pickup and restricts the flow. Three small standoffs were attached to the bottom of the strainer by me to alleviate the problem. You have an excellent product, priced great, even comes with additional impellers and motor brushes, a plus!!

Not Suitable for Long Line Operations-Weak Pump, May 6, 2012

Unfortunately I went by one of the reviews, which was wrong and purchased this pump. I’m transferring water from a 55 gallon drum , mounted 4 feet high through 100 feet of 5/8 inch garden hose and over level ground and also from one big 600 gallon tank to smaller tanks. Unfortunately the persons who wrote these other reviews are not experienced with pumps apparently.

This pump works by the impeller creating a friction seal as the rubber impeller which is symmetrical rotates in an asymmetrical pump housing, and uses a standard 1/10 hp, brush AC motor. I disassembled the pump which is made in China and thought the workmanship quality and material quality was poor and I remain uncertain how long this pump will run. It is really working hard and is loud and whines when pumping through a 100 foot hose and the sound is quite annoying.Typically that means a short life. The hotter a pump runs and near its rating the less time it lasts typically.

While the pump says it is self priming, requiring only some water in the inlet and outlet ports, the pump was unable to to pull water DOWN from the 4 foot high barrel and even when primed, the pump was unable to maintain a continuous flow of water except at a very low PSI rate, which manifested itself in only a few PSI at the outlet end of the 100 foot hose. And this was over level ground. Adding an expensive check vale is must for this pump if your trying to pull water from a rain barrel or through a filter.

You won’t have enough pressure with this pump to spray and at about six feet of hose height at the outlet end the pump slows to a trickle through 100 feet of 5/8 garden hose. Also with this pump I advise to make the impeller last you add a bit of vegetable oil to the inlet and outlet ports and it helps quiet the pump down.

It does work and moves the water out of the rain barrel or bigger storage tank but not well at all. Fundamentally this pump does not have enough HP. If you want to move a lot of water and to have go over 50 feet and up any hill or if you want pressure for spraying this simply is not the pump you want. I really take issue with the reviews written about this pump, and did some calculation and it determined for 100 feet you need at least 1/2 hp with 5/8 hose if you want to be able to spray with sufficient nozzle pressure.

I would recommend buying the Wayne Stainless Steel 1 HP for water barrel applications. That pump is overpowered meaning it will last much longer. You can buy them on Amazon. Its about 2x this pumps price but you won’t have to replace this one like I just did.

What is this pump good for, well infrequent and small applications such as pumping water out of waterbed. Unfortunately I need to use the pump several times a week and its is just too weak for my application.

The reviews that state this is suitable for moving water out of rain barrel through 100 foot hose are wrong. It is not unless you have the patience of job and don’t mind the noise and don’t want to spray and pump only infrequently.

Overall I don’t think this pump is any worse or any better than any of the 1/10 HP, made in China, brush AC moter water pumps.

I wish someone had advised me on how weak these 1/10 hp foreign made pumps are.

Also if your operating this pump at any distance from an outlet, you should use the shortest possible extension cord and a 12 AWG type of cord as it can’t take any type of voltage drop or the power just disappears. You also need to remove any flow restrictors in your hose when using this pump if you want to improve the outlet any PSI.

It may work better with a 3/4 in hose but I don’t want to have to lug one of those around the garden.

I have a masters degree in electrical engineering, so I think I am a well qualified reviewer, compared to other reviews so hopefully amazon will allow my honest review to be posted and people who need the bigger 1 hp wayne pump with step up to it without wasting money on this tiny under powered pump!

I hope to save you the time , money and frustration and be forthright.
